If you are looking for WordPress form plugins featuring a simple contact form, a contact form with customization options and/or a complex form, take a look at the WordPress Form Plugin – Formidable Forms.  I have been using it for around three years now, and I find it very easy-to-use, flexible, and with good support.   So even if you are a first-time WordPress user, I highly suggest using Formidable over the first ones that show up on your WordPress contact form plugin search from the WordPress plugin directory.

Formidable forms is pretty formidable with over 430,000 downloads as of today along with 4.2 out of 5 stars.  However, you will see that the Contact Form plugin has over 1.65 million downloads.  I tried Contact Form out the other day and found that the free version had barely no customization options.  I immediately deactivated and deleted the plugin and downloaded Formidable Forms for this website’s contact page along with another project I’m working on at the moment (not live yet).   With drag-and-drop form building (6 drag and drop fields in free version), simple layout classes, and visual styling, you can create completely custom forms quickly and without any programming knowledge.

I have downloaded the paid unlimited version of  Formidable Pro for several projects.  The clients have been happy with the forms that we built with Formidable Pro along with the entries and reporting options.  Here you can see an online quote form built with Fromidable Pro.

If you are looking for free WordPress form plugins – no problem.  Go for the free version.  And then if you plan to add more forms to your website that need features such as more customization (24 drag and drop field types, 12 add-ons, visually style forms), reporting (view and edit entries, displays entries, stats and graphs) and auto-responders – notifications  along with support, take a look at the Formidable Pro pricing.  I think it’s reasonable at $47 for one site and $117 for unlimited installs.

If you are like me, you may also want to know a little bit about who is the person or company behind the plugin.  Steve and Stephanie are a husband and wife team and owners of Strategy11.  When I first started with the free version and added a question to their support forum, Stephanie was quick to respond and help.  And just in case you were wondering, that is not Steve in the picture.  I didn’t see a group shot on their website :).
